What Causes Swollen Sore Eye Which Is Painful?

I have a swollen and very sore eye. The eye lid is swollen almost closed and the eye ball it self seems to hurt the most. I work in a child care centre and have had no injury to my eye. Bright light (outside) and moving my eye or closing my eye lid hurts the most. I had a friend check my eye and can t see anything inside that may be causing the pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that there might be having some acute infection in your eye like infected stye, muco-purulant conjunctivitis or some foreign body stucked in cornea or sclera.
Consult ophthalmologist and get examined as early as possible.
Meanwhile put antibiotic eye drops every 2-3 hourly.
Do nor rub or squeeze your eye.
Ok and take care.
