Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have a small flesh-colored bump on the left side of palatopharyngeal arch. I have noticed it for about a month or maybe a little longer. My Dr. put me on 3x a day amoxicillin for a week, but it s still there. I have a low-level pain in that same side but I can t really pinpoint whether it s this bump or it s my tonsil. Also have a slightly raised lymph node on left side of neck. slightly raised compared to right side. how likely is it that it might be a pre-cancerous or cancerous tumor? or likely benign cyst? has any ENT doctors seen anything like this? Thank you.
Hello and welcome to HCM, A flesh colored mass near to the palato-pharyngeal arch along with enlarged lymph node on side of neck is suspicious for malignancy. An infectious process is unlikely to cause a flesh colored lesion in oral mucosa. In order to assess whether the lesion is due to tonsillar enlargement or not, a clinical assessment is required. Thus, a clinical assessment by an ENT specialist is required. In order to know the character or nature of the lesion, a biopsy is required. Thus, a biopsy of the lesion in oral cavity is required along with aspiration cytology of the lymph node on same side is required. The lymph node can be enlarged due to metastatic deposits if the lesion is malignant.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
