What Causes Swollen Gums Along With Persistent Fever In A Child?

hi my daughter is 3 years old she has had swollen gums and a persistent fever that has lasted for about 5 days up to 103 degrees when the medication wears off. We thought she was teething, but this seems to be beyond teething...she is in a lot of pain. She has also developed some tiny sores around her mouth (on the outside). What could this be?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Swollen gums are commonly seen in inflammation of gums.
Gum inflammation is associated with caries of teeth, poor oral hygiene, deposition of plaque on teeth, formation of pockets in gums etc.
Thus, clinical assessment of oral cavity is required by a dentist.
Sores around mouth also need to be investigated.
Sores can occur due to aphthous ulceration, however, clinical assessment is necessary.
Associated fever suggest some kind of infection.
Swelling of gums and sores around mouth can due to infectious process.
Thus, consultation with a dentist is necessary as early as possible for prompt treatment.

Thanks and take care
