What Causes Swollen Ankles While Taking Benicar For Gout?
My husband was on Benicar and had periodic gout attacks for two years and weight gain. Finally realized on the net that it was due to Benicar. Now on Amolodipine Besylate... 10mg and his ankles are so swollen he cant fit shoes on too well... he is not wanting to remain on this. Is there anything out there that will work with minimal side effects?
It was a bit unclear as to what is the problem here? Benicar (olmesartan) is actually a medicine used to reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension. So I assume he had hypertension for which olmesartan was prescribed. Somewhere during that period he developed gout attacks. I am not sure what treatment was given for the gout attacks, but the olmesartan was stopped because there was a suspicion of olmesartan causing gout. I hope my understnading of your condition is right.
Currently your husband has developed amlodipine induced leg swelling which is a well known side effect with this drug in a few patients. In my opinion, I would recommend him losartan 25 mg once daily and check with his physician about dosage and titrate according to his blood pressure. Hope he does well.
