Hi It was a bit unclear as to what is the problem here? Benicar (olmesartan) is actually a medicine used to reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension. So I assume he had hypertension for which olmesartan was prescribed. Somewhere during that period he developed gout attacks. I am not sure what treatment was given for the gout attacks, but the olmesartan was stopped because there was a suspicion of olmesartan causing gout. I hope my understnading of your condition is right. Currently your husband has developed amlodipine induced leg swelling which is a well known side effect with this drug in a few patients. In my opinion, I would recommend him losartan 25 mg once daily and check with his physician about dosage and titrate according to his blood pressure. Hope he does well.
