My daughter just told me her ankle is swollen. But she didn t sprain it. It si the same ankle she had a severe sprain in HS sports. But that was over 10 years ago. I don t want to scare her so I haven t mention a blood clot. This is the third time in the last 9 months.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Recurrent ankle swelling can be associated with the injury that your daughter has sustained 10 years back.
A X-ray of the ankle joint is required to assess the status of bones and soft tissues.
Arthroscopy may also be indicated to assess any fluid collection in the joint space.
Sprain / Ligament injuries are very slow to heal and tend to recur or cause pain especially during winters.
Consultation with an orthopedician is required for clinical assessment and planning further management.

Thanks and take care
