What Causes Swollen Ankle And Foot After Hip Replacement Surgery?

I have swollen ankle and foot after hip replacement five months ago. It comes and goes, but is mostly there. I take tylanol every other day and Aleve on the other days. It is worse when I do a lot of walking, but worry about blood clots or kidney damage. Help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
i can understand your concern. the anti inflammatory drugs you have been using do produce edema in few cases on prolonged use. i would like to know if the swelling is present only in one leg or both the legs. this would help in coming to a diagnosis. and if the swelling pits on pressure or not.
i would advise an arterial and venous doppler if the swelling is in one leg.
kindly get an complete urine examination also. placing couple of pillows below ankle during nights would help. do get back to us with the reports. thanks for choosing HCM
