What Causes Swollen And Itchy Veins In The Abdomen?

Hi Dr., I have D.V.T. s in both my legs and I had surgery two and a half weeks ago, prior to surgery my legs were very swollen and painful after survey the swelling had gone down a lot and pain had subsided some and then I was discharged, well after about 4-5 days later I noticed veins in my abdomen had become swollen and very itchy and uncomfortable, and very warm to the touch, my right leg also started swelling back up and pain had returned, my leg has swollen probably 3 times it s normal size. I have a Cava filter that s has been in for about 4 years which the Vascular Surgeon said should be removed because he said it was pretty clogged up. Should I be concerned and go to the ER?.

Hi,

It seems you have developed cava thrombosis leading to marked leg swelling, ascites (?) and prominent collaterals in an anterior abdominal wall with tributaries of SVC. Large thrombi may embolize to the pulmonary arteries via collateral veins that develop. Retrievable filters can be removed. Need to visit the ER.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
