What Causes Swelling Of Veins On Both Sides Of The Head?

Male age 56, 5'8", 155 lbs, good health, exercise 5 day/wk. After a full day of physical labor around the house I noticed the temporal region on both sides of my head, above and to the front of my ears, was very tender to the touch. The veins in the region seem to be "swollen" and I can feel a pronounced pulse.
