What Causes Swelling Of The Arm After Intravenous Injection?

I have a swollen hard vein, tendon, or artery in my right armpit. It is going down a little bit, but it worries me because I recently injected on my right firearm. I likely missed the vein but probably hit it too. There is a little swelling in the arm too and what may be the beginning of an abscess. Is the swollen tissue an artery or something I should go to the ER for?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It looks like a thrombophlebitis and infection of the vein. You need to shoe up at ER as sometimes incision and drainage may be required for the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
