What Causes Swelling Near Knee Cap After A Fall?

My daughter is 17 and in cheer. Last night she was catching a gal as she came down from a stunt and my daughter fell on her knee but I guess the leg was also bent underneath her when she fell. Of course it swelled up and she was taken to urgent care where they did an xray as well as a ct scan. They told her it looks like her knee cap popped out and it needs to be popped back in. She is able to walk on it slowly this morning but can't straighten it out. She also says it looks like that leg is turning in now. Any thoughts?

Since the bony injuries have been ruled out, a soft tissue injury is likely. You need to avoid massaging the area and take a mild pain killer for relief. Avoid putting weight and rest well. Do a cold compress on the area of injury.
The pain and swelling might take over a week to subside. In case there is an acute pain and a sudden increase in swelling then consult your physician for a direct examination to rule out any infection in the area.
