What Causes Swelling In Throat And Lymph Node Of Neck?

I m terrified. I notice a swollen right tonsil 4 months ago. I quit smoking and drinking but I m afraid it s too late. On top of that I was diagnose with alcalasia a muscle disorder in my throat so I should have never been smoking. I am now 35. I started smoking when I was 23 then I stopped when I was 28 and started back when I was 33. I have a one year old son and a 17 year old son. I want to be here to see them have children . On the same side as the swollen tonsil is a swollen lymp node under the jaw area right where my kneck meet with the jaw. Please let know what you think.

thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com....

first of all, dont be terrified....from your description, it does not seem to be a very severe problem....
achalasia is a sort of muscle disorder in throat for which there is excess dilatation of one part of the esophagus and there is difficulty in swallowing....there are a few medications and if they dont work, there is an operation of the throat which is near curative....so dont worry so much...
and for the enlarged tonsil and lymph node in the neck, probably you have chronic tonsillitis alongwith maybe pharyngitis and the lymoh node is enlarged for that reason only...maybe you have not taken medicine properly or for some other reason that it has persisted for so long....

so visit an ENT specialist and he would be able to put you on antibiotics or if needed tonsillectomy can be done....
all of the things i told above is not very serious and other diagnoses are though possible but unlikely....
you should also definitely leave the habit of smoking for once and for all....it has serious bad effects on health....

hope this was helpful....
contact me for any further advice....

regards
