What Causes Swelling In The Temple After An Injury?

Hi. It s almost 1245 where I am and I got up to go to the bathroom and tripped on a shoe. On my way down I hit the left side of head by my eye/temple area on the wall. I didn t hit the eye but the area part just where the eyebrow ends. Once I was able to get up I immediately felt swelling around it. No blood or cut but man I look like someone put a small egg under my skin and it s slightly purple. This was roughly 20-25 mins ago. I don t have much of a headache. It hurts a little obviously since it s swollen but I m more worried about the swelling being it s a) so close to the eye area and b) close to the temple. Should I be worried? How long should I wait before going back to bed? Will the swelling go down and how long will it take for it to go down? Sorry for the questions. I just don t want to fall asleep and not wake up.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The swelling over the temple after an injury is due to possible hematoma formation via injured subcutaneous blood vessel or capillary.

The primary application of ice, intake of anti-inflammatory drugs will recover the issue faster.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
