What Causes Swelling In The Neck And Shoulder?

Hi. My friend has noticed that her lower neck and tops of her shoulders are noticeably swollen. She has had no trauma to this area. She has looked online and wonders if she may be having an issue with Superclavicular lymph nodes, since the swelling is more prominent in her shoulders. She says that they are sore.

Hi,

Yes, the possibility of the enlarged supraclavicular lymph node is more likely.

Tenderness (sore to touch) is suggestive of infection-related lymph node enlargement more. So better to consult a doctor and get done a clinical examination and ultrasound examination of the neck. This will confirm the cause of the swelling.

If it is due to lymph node enlargement then he will need oral antibiotics like Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid or Levofloxacin. Painkillers are also beneficial to relieve pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
