What Causes Swelling In The Lower Leg And Ankle After An Injury?

My husband had a golf cart fall on his leg. Cray showed no breaks. His lower leg and ankle swelled two to three times the size of his other leg. He developed large blood blisters. He can t weight bear without lots of pain. The injury occurred when the golf cart he was driving hit a curve and tipped over onto his leg and ankle. How long will it take to heal?. It s been 5 days and four since he saw the doctor and had x rays. Any suggestions as how to proceed?

Hi,

In fact, swelling and pain after trauma are common and reassure if there is no fracture. However, if the swelling is too much as you said and there are blisters then we must take it a bit more seriously.

If the swelling and pain is decreasing, then it's fine. This may take many days, even up to a few weeks to be pain free. You may take some pain killers, ice packing, and keep the leg elevated. I would advise you to see a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query.
