What Causes Swelling In The Knee Radiating Towards Ankle?
I am experiencing swelling from my left knee down by the end of the day. I ve experienced pain in the bend of my knee and my ankle. It feels like there may be some sort of cistern or lump in both of those places. What could the problem be & what type of Doctor should I see about it.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in bend of knee and ankle could be due to compression of nerve in the knee joint. The lump as described by you in the knee joint or ankle could be the cause of compression and thus pain. I suggest you to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment and imaging study preferably MRI to know the nature of lesion in the knee and ankle joint. The imaging study will determine the nature of the lump - whether fluid filled or arising from soft tissue or bony tissue. Thereafter, the lump can be managed depending on its nature.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
