What Causes Swelling In The Hand After An Injury?

I fell between my pontoon and my dock on June 11th. During the fall my hand got trapped between the railing and the door. Being trapped tore a gash in my inner hand near my wrist and the back of my hand was also injured. The gash took 6 stitches. The ER took X-rays and said nothing was broken, the back of my hand is still swollen. It s not tender but is it something I should be concerned with.

Hi,

If the X-ray shows no bone fracture(not even a hairline fracture) The swelling at the back of the hand seems to be following the soft tissue injury.

You must have been prescribed with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs to pre net once tuin that should take care of the swelling. But if the swelling remains the same or increases after 5 days please consult your treating surgeon.

Till then take care.Take rest, eat hereby, take medicines as prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
