What Causes Swelling In The Feet While Suffering From Cellulitis?

63 yr old male. Had stroke 10 yrs ago. Recently he had cellulitis on right foot that seems to have cleared up but that same right foot is swollen, not painful. He is seen at a nursing home, nobody seems worried. His mother is worried. What do you think? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Swelling is a common side effect of cellulitis.

It is caused by inflammation of the local area.

I suggest you use noninflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen.

I also suggest using cool compresses and elevate the leg to reduce the swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
