What Causes Swelling In The Feet And Ankles?

My feet and ankles have been swelling more and more lately to the point where I am having a hard time zipping my work boots over my calf. Also when I remove my socks, there a large imprints of the elastic around my calf muscles which take a few hours to dissipate. I have gained about 10 pounds in the last 3 weeks although I try to watch what I eat. What can be going on? My wife watches what I eat but I occasionally enjoy ice cream or chocolate candy. I don t exercise as much as I should. I play golf twice a week and always walk. Age 64. No health issues.

Hello and greetings

Ankle and feet swelling are most either due to cardiac issues or kidney issues. In heart failure, we see patient having feet and ankle swelling especially otting type. Similarly, in kidney failure we get swelling at those places.

Other cause can be low protein in diet that can cause swelling in the periphery.

Also, standing or sitting for long can cause swelling in feet and ankle or any ankle/leg injury too.

These are some common causes. Get in touch with your nearest doctor to find the exact causes.

Thanks
