What Causes Swelling In The Back After Injury?

I was playing football in the street with my kids, jumped and lost balance when landing stumbled and fell directly on right side of back with arm outstretched, stretching shoulder. Now the right side of my back is swollen - mid-scapular line to spine and down to about 4 inches above my waist. The swelling is quite considerable and it appears to be about two inches out compared to the left side.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The swelling over back after injury indicate hematoma formation via blood collection in the subcutaneous or muscular portion of the injured site.

Proper care with ice application, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drugs recover well in the majority of the instances, some of the few cases require a surgical drainage if not paid attention wisely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
