Hello,

In arthritis, it's very common to have swollen joints from time to time. You have been prescribed medicines to slow down the progression of the disease, I hope you are taking those on time and without missing any. The cortisone injection helps to reduce the inflammation. You said your doctor tried to remove fluid from the joint before giving you the cortisone injection.

Did you take proper care of the injected site later to prevent any infection? There are chances that the swelling , pain and bruise like appearance is result of some infection. I would suggest you to see your doctor and get it checked if there is infection that caused this problem then you need to take some antibiotics as per your doctor’s advice. Do not panic and don’t wait for it to resolve on its own.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar,
