Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had two lower impacted wisdom teeth removed. I developed dry sockets day 2. Day 3 my doc pulled the stitches and cleaned them out. I had a ton of swelling even in my neck and a hard lump on my jawline. It is day 6 and the swelling is nearly gone but the hard mass is still there. I was also in a ton of pain last night similar to the night after surgery. Is the lump a concern?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms first thing that I would like to tell you is that Dry socket does not develop on the second day after extraction and it takes almost 5 to 6 days after which the pain due to dry socket develops.
Other thing is that if now after 6 days also if you have severe pain then you can get checked for dry socket.
A hard lump after wisdom tooth extraction is not an abnormal finding and it is commonly seen due to accumulation of inflammatory cells and injured tissue in the area of soft tissues from where wisdom tooth is extracted. Doing alternate warm and cold compresses in that region and taking anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen will help in relieving pain as well as faster resolution of swelling.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
