What Causes Swelling And Warm Feeling At The Spot Of Vaccination?
Hello
My 4 year old daughter had the flu vaccine (via nasal spray) and her pre school booster vaccine on Wednesday morning. Since then she has been complaining of a sore arm (which the nurse told me may be a side effect of the vaccine). However today she has been very out of sorts and the area where she had the needle is very red and swollen and boiling hot to the touch. She also has a temperature and says it's itchy. I took her to my gp for an emergency appointment at 6pm where he prescribed antibiotics as a preventative measure for cellulitis. I understand that this is a bacterial infection but do not understand how she could have got this from the injection? I stupidly didn't ask the right questions. Could it be that the locum nurse used a needle that wasn't sterilised?? I am very concerned now as my husband and I can't understand what else could have caused this? Even my doctor seemed surprised. Is this a common occurrence following this booster vaccine? We have to go back to the doctor on Monday morning but I am worried sick now that she may have caught something else.
Thank you for your help. Any reassurance would be most appreciated.
Kind regards,
