What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Knees?

I have a swollen knee that is warm to touch, difficult to bend. very painful. Have had ice on it on and off today. Did a lot of kneeling yesterday working on inside of boat. Dont remember banging it on anything. Woke up today and it was painful and painful to bend. Cant support direct weight on it. I have taken motrin 3 times today. Do I have to worry about a possible blood clot etc. Knee and surrounding area is a little more red then other leg with swelling. Ice does make it temporarily feel better.
