What Causes Swelling And Pain In The Finger Joint?

Hello, I have a swollen joint and I don t know what it is from. It is my pointer finger and the pain feels as if I have broken it but I haven t. It hurts to touch it and I cant bend it. I haven t done much to hurt it and it randomly just started hurting. The only cause I can think of is digging in the sand for shells for an hour or two.

Hi, I have gone through your Question and Understand your concern.

Swelling in the joint of your pointer finger might be because of too much physical activity and infection, as you said digging for two hours will definitely have an impact on your finger and its joint.

Just rest the finger joints and apply some ice, remove any rings as it is swollen and tape this finger to the next finger for support.

Make sure you follow the above instructions and see if the pain is coming down, if yes, there is nothing to worry and the swollen joint comes to normal in couple of days, but if you see any severe pain at rest or numbness following redness I would suggest to see your Doctor for any further investigations and treatment.

Hope this will help you.

Thanks
Dr. Alekhya.
