What Causes Swelling And Burning Sensation In The Knee After A Fall?

I fell on the cement by my frontdoor, two days ago The right knee really caught it. It is black and bluefrom mid-calf to mid high. However, the knee itself is extremely zwollen, yestreday it gave such an extreme burning sensation I could barely move my leg. I had some antibiotica cream and covered the non-black and blue patch of the knee, since that is what hurt. Also, since the fall I treated to whole area with cold compresses, and stretch bandages. What can I do to het he swelling og the knee (cap ??) down. the area feels quite warm. Tena Minnema, YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Firstly I would have recommended you to do an x-ray of the affected joint because it can be broken, cracked or dislocated.

I can recommend you to keep it at rest as much as possible, keep your limb elevated. You can use anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil or naproxen for pain and swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
