What Causes Swelling And Blisters On The Lips After Applying Fluorouracil Cream?

I am using Fluorouracil 5% cream on my lower lip for possible cancerous cells. I knew it would have a reaction, but after a week, my entire lip is swollen, burnt severely, and covered with blisters. My lip burns constantly. It feels as if my lip is burning off. Is this normal or am I having a bad reaction?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Unfortunately, skin irritation and burning are possible side effects of this medication. Drying, swelling and tenderness can also occur as well.

The rawness of the skin can sometimes be due to the destruction of dangerous areas but it may be best to see your doctor for an assessment to check the progress of the treatment and also to determine if further treatment is needed.

I hope this helps
