What Causes Swallowing Difficulty While Eating Food?

Good evening. I am a 59 year male. I have had problems for years with opening my eye lids and/or keeping them open. Difficult swallowing at times eating or afterwards constantly clearing my throat. Loss of voice for no apparent reason, sometimes as long as 2 weeks. Muscle spasms come and go in neck, shoulders, upper and lower arms, hands, toes, back, back of rib cage, calves, thighs. Now developmenting yes and no tremors with head. Hand tremors too when trying to do simple task. Double vision side to side or stack. Several Dr. thought I may have Myasthenia Gravis (my father has it) most test show negative. Latest neurologist thinks I may have Dystonia but knows little about it. Looking for the best Dr that know all the different types of dystonia. I have Mayo clinic is #1 in the nation but I need atop notch Dr. Thanks D.L.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are several reasons for transient loss of voice, but the best way of assessing is to do a Stroboscopy.

Stroboscopy will show the movement of your vocal cord as well as if there are any pathological lesions.

You need to voice therapist after the test. Sometimes Muscular Dystonia causes the above symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rajat Basak
