What Causes Sudden Weight Gain In The Abdominal Area While Having Gall Stones?

male age 56. 6ft 3inches. 215 lbs currently. nov 2016 began losing weight. no exercise, no diet change. lost 15-20 lbs, surprisingly in abdomen area only. 38 inch waist went to 34/33. like i was 25 again, could see 6-pack abs once again. had loose stools, minor diareha, gas, gurgling stomach. low of 195 lbs, leveled off at 200 for a while. stomach stayed thin until about 3 mos ago, then gradually began expanding as weight came back. very unusual to lose weight in ab area only. i wish i could do it again without the other symptoms. had ct scan and sonogram. found a couple of tiny gallstones. dr not too concerned.

Hello,

Weight gain in the abdominal area is commonly due to lack of exercises, alcohol consumption, stress, side effects of certain medications, ascites, other chronic diseases, etc. Obesity is one of the major causes of gall stones, wrong diet (diet high in fat, cholesterol and low in fiber) may be a cause. Maintain healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly and avoid addictions if any. Since you are diagnosed with gall stones avoid taking oily, junk food. Maintain healthy weight. Get clinically examined by a surgeon, get all investigations and imaging tests done. If needed get the gall stones removed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
