What Causes Sudden Weight Gain Along With Abdominal Bloating?

I am 55yr old female. All of a sudden I have literally gained 7 lbs in 7 days. I have had severe gas - Blotting to the point that I look 6 months pregnant. I cant control it or fix it. I am very off balance. Not in any pain but uncomfortable. I have not changed my diet or anything- so concerned that I want to go to see a doctor. The constant belching and gas is new and constant. The blotting is horrible.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Gaining so much weight in such a short time brings the concern if it is related to fluid retention and not real weight gain. I would recommend you to check your legs for edema. If your legs seem swollen you will need a visit soon to find the cause for it.
Possible cause of weigh gain with bloating can be also a problem with the thyroid so it might be advisable to have a TSH and FT4 test.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
