Hi. My son 15 yo son just got home from summer school, P.E. He explained a sudden pounding headache as soon as he began doing push ups. Same thing happened yesterday. He is in good health and shape. Drinking cold water and holding it in his mouth helped relieve some pain. Pain took his breath away. No other symptoms. He does occasionally get migraines, but said this was different.
Hi Your son is surely going through what we call exercise-induced-headache.It occurs during or after a sustained strenuous exercise. It could be primary exercise induced headache which is generally harmless given the fact that he has a past history of migraine headache or secondary exercise headache which could be caused by an underlying serious problem within the brain such as bleeding or tumor or outside the brain such as a coronary heart disease. Also, headache could be caused by dehydration. In the case of your son, it is more of a primary headache that can be controlled with paracetamol-codeine combinations. It it happens again and does not respond well to this pain medication, i advise you get a CT scan and meet a Neurologist for evaluation. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
