What Causes Sudden Swelling In The Right Thumb?

Hi. My mother s right thumb just swelled up overnight. It s in and around the thumb region. There seems to be no visible external injury. She can t bend her thumb. Due to the swelling it has deviated to one side.There is no history of an earlier swelling.

if your mother has no underlying medical conditions like High Blood Pressure , Diabetes , or any systemic issue and other wise a healthy women than this overnight swelling most probably may be caused by an insect bite or there may be problem with the blood vessels around the thumb

if there is a systemic problem than this may also be associated with this
you can apply heat packs on thumb along with over the counter anti inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen
but if it doesn't relieve then u must visit ur dr to further evaluate the condition
