What Causes Sudden Severe Swelling In Feet And Ankles?
Should I be concerned that my feet and ankles are all od a sudden really swollen. I m a 47 female who doesn t take any meds...never had this happen before? Also, I use reading glasses but the last couple of day s my vision seems to take longer to focus. I ve been really tired for no apparent reason. Don t have a primary doctor...matter of fact haven t had a check up in a few years.
Sudden severe swelling in the feet and ankles are commonly due to water retention, venous insufficiency, OA, RA, kidney dysfunction, obesity, etc. If obese, reduce weight. Do regular walking and stretch exercises but do not over-strain yourself. Cut on salt intake to reduce water retention and swelling. Avoid standing at the same position for a long time.
Keep foot elevated on a stool when sitting or on a pillow when on bed. You can take NSAIDS, Combiflam or Naproxen to reduce discomfort. Take home made balanced food. Get clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests, urinalysis and imaging tests done to detect pathology causing you symptoms. You will be treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
