What Causes Sudden Pain In The Chest On The Left Side?

ok, so I m sitting at my desk at work - not doing anything strenuous. I have a quick, sharp, stabbing pain on my left side under my heart -- twice within one minute - about 30 seconds apart. Hasn t happened since (this happened at 3:45pm EST). My history is that I had 4-way bypass on 1/29/2010 and no problems since the heart surgery. I feel fine. No other symptoms. Blood pressure is normal. All in all I feel fine right now. Should I go to the ER or not?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If the pain is severe or associated with shortness of breath or palpitations or you have a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, smoking, obesity/overweight or a family history of heart disease then you should be seen as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
