What Causes Sudden Pain And Swelling In The Thighs?

My 92 yr old mother had sudden onset of right front thigh pain (describes as burning) Sunday morning and thigh appears to be slightly swollen. She has not been able to sleep for any length of time. She does have sciatica, but has not experienced any back pain or pain in the buttock or back of leg which would be typical for her sciatica flare up. Walking makes it worse. She cannot lay down and has been trying to sleep sitting up. We are concerned especially with her inability to sleep, and that the pain is not in the back of the leg. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms seem to be related to a pinched nerve.

I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen or Diclofenac to relieve the symptoms.

If the pain continue, I suggest to consult a neurologist to exclude sciatica pain.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
