What Causes Sudden Onset Of Tickling Sensation In The Throat And Cough?

i just read that my problem is being experienced by others as well. I get a sudden tickle and dry feeling on the right side of my throat, which leads me to cough so hard I gag and nothing stops it. water does not work and I have to leave the room as its really embarrassing. I cough so hard and if i have a cough candy, which I now carry all the time, that is the only thing that helps and it takes a lot of swallowing. I don t have a cold, this just happens out of the blue and has been happening for more than a year. I just don t want to be ignoring something that might be more serious. I have never smoked and I don t live with someone that smokes.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to pharyngitis.

As first-line management, you can do warm saline gargles.

If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated. In that case, you might require antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
