What Causes Sudden Metallic Taste In The Tongue?

My tongue has a metallic taste and a slight tingling. My ability to taste is unaffected, as is my appetite. I am a white male, 61 years old, 6'0", 313 lbs. I received a "shingles" shot in October 2015. These symptoms began approximately 6 weeks after receiving the shot and I believe that there is a connection. I take Metformin, Levothyroxine, Lisinopril, Atenolol, and Simvastatin. The metallic taste seems stronger today than it has on other days.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain metallic taste in tongue can be seen commonly due to side effects of medications and s you are taking a number of medications, there is also a possibility that there is dryness in mouth that can further add up to alteration in taste..
Other common causes can be oral and dental infections, acid reflux, sinus infection etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per suspected cause can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
In case if any other cause is not diagnosed and medications are only ruled out to be cause you c be referred to your treating physician and get evaluated and he can reduce the doses of medications to relieve the symptoms..
As of now you can gargle with flavoured mouthwash..
You can also chew flavoured sugarfree chewing gums..
Drink plenty of water..
Maintain a good oral hygiene..
