What Causes Sudden Fluctuations In Heart Rate?
My heart rate is VERY slow/low - 44 bpm when agitated at the doctor s office! When I try to go to sleep and am totally relaxed, my heart will flutter/race for no reason . . . is it so slow that my body is trying to speed it up because it is getting dangerously low? It never happens during the day; only when I am almost ready to doze off to sleep. thank you!

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sudden fluctuations in heart rate . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like high blood pressure , poor blood supply to the heart muscle due to coronary artery disease , heart valve disease, heart failure, heart muscle disease thyroid disease and emotional stress or drinking . I would suggest you to avoid drinking alcohol and consult cardiologist for proper checkup of your heart condition . Doctor may order ECG , TMT , complete blood profile and checkup for secondary disease like hyperthroidism . Doctor may perform vagal maneuvers , prescribe anti-arrhythmic medication (Tambocor) , sometimes doctor may recommend pacemaker . For now stay calm and do mind relaxing exercises like yoga and meditation after consultation with expert .
