What Causes Sudden Extreme Heat And Cold Sensitivity In Crowned Tooth?

Hello! About 5 years ago I fainted in the shower and broke my two front teeth in half. I'd missed the pulp, thankfully, but it wasn't until 2012 that I could have them crowned. There was no sign of dental decay in either of them at the time. Now all of a sudden one of my crowned teeth are extremely sensitive to hot and cold foods and sometimes air. I have pre-existing sensitivity in my other teeth and haven't considered sensitivity toothpaste yet. Would this be something I NEED to have examined by my dentist?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of intense toothache and sensitivity under a crown which is due to presence of infection in underneath area of crown. Infection keeps on building up there due to severe pulp exposure and leads to formation of abscess which is causing severe pain and spread of infection in facial space regions.

I would suggest you to start with antibiotic combination, take Azithromycin 500 mg as you have severe form of infection. You can take combination of Diclofenac and Ibuprofen. Do warm saline gargles and betadine gargles. Visit dentist once and get IOPA done and start with root canal therapy of concerned tooth again. After this get crown placement done. Go for scaling and root planning of that particular quadrant. Follow all the instructions and maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing. Use listerine mouth wash.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
