What Causes Sudden Elevation In The Heart Rate?

My husband is 46 and what we consider pretty healthy. But tonight his heart beat suddenly started racing, and we timed it at 104 beats a minute. He meditated briefly and it did come down to 84 beats a minute but as I was timing it I noticed he s missing a beat every three or four beats. Is this something to be alarmed about?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello There

After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that sudden onset of palpitation can be due to anxiety, gastritis, dehydration or heart problems. If you noticed beats missing then probably he should go for basic cardiac checkup which includes an ECG, Echocardiography and if required then HOLTER analysis.

It's recommended to consult a cardiologist personally for proper management.

Hopefully this information will guide you properly.

Kind Regards
Dr Bhanu Partap
