My best friend woke her husband up in the middle of the night from snoring. She said when she woke him up he was screaming " No"! then knocked down a lamp and rolled onto floor. he stood up and looked at her confused and she had to slap him. She said he looked at her and asked her " Whats happening to me". What is wrong? She has said before he woke up trying to straggle her almost punched her. they have only been married for 8 months.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi.

I understand your concern.

I had gone through your history and it seems like to have two possibilities.

Detail evaluation and examination can give much more confirmation.

Sleep terror is kind of disorder which can occur in NREM phase of sleep and patient has similar picture of screaming and confusion.

Convulsion or seizure has also same features with body movements.

Need detail evaluation and investigation like EEG can be useful to differentiate.

Consult psychiatrist for further assistance.

I hope I have answered your question. Thank you.
