What Causes Subungual Melanoma?

Could you please describe subungual melanoma? When my 42 year old daughter removed toe nail polish Christmas Eve, there was a purple marking under the toe nail. Kaiser was closed today, so she went to Urgent Care. The PA told her to she a dermatologist as soon as possible. (Hopefully tomorrow.) If it is subungual melanoma, what is the survival rate. Her Dad had melanoma on his face 5 years ago. Doing well now, thankfully. Thank you. YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is unlikely be subungual melanoma. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer but is curable if detected in the early stage. You can plan for a biopsy to make a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
