Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query struck throat, bad breath and salty taste in mouth after tonsil removal is because tonsils are sacs of lymphatic tissue and are part of the body's immune system and contain lymphocytes that prevent and fight infections. The tonsils function like nets, trapping incoming bacteria and virus particles passing through your throat and preventing them travelling through the body.

Once parts of debris get trapped, they attract bacteria, harden and start to decay, which is the main reason for bad breath, struck throat. Continuous bacteria accumulation causes degradation of enzymes and produces acidic environment in mouth and gives salty feel.

I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene by antimicrobial rinse on daily basis. Brush twice daily and floss as well. Do warm saline gargles to clear throat and betadine gargles as well for antiseptic properties.

Visit ENT specialist once and get you symptoms evaluated and take antibiotic such as Azithromycin to fight against bacteria's.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
