What Causes Strep Throat With Hard Mucus In The Throat?

I was diagnosed with strep throat Monday at emergency room. I had been taking amoxicilian since Jan 31. They said my lungs are clear but I have mucus in my throat that I can t expell. They gave me a medrol dose pack and have used it 2 days. When I try to clear my throat, the mucus blocks the air passage to my lungs and I can t breathe. Can you help me?
