What Causes Stomach Ache After Withdrawing From Eliquis?
my mom is 71 years old. She doesn t smoke or drink alcohol. She doesnt have diabetes and she is not overweight. She has atrial fibrillation for the past 7-8 years. She tried using blood thinners before (1-2 years ago) and she had severe stomach pain, then she quit. Recently she started using Eliquis based on her Drs suggestion and in a week time she had again severe stomach pain, she had to stop and go back to aspirin. Since she stopped using Eliquis, she continuously have stomach pain. Can it be a pancreas related problem? We are concerned about that.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Eliquis and aspirin are both blood thinners. They are contarindicated in patients that have a history of stomach ache, because the patient might have a gastric ulcera, and these medicines increase the risk of bleeding ang agravate the symptoms.
In my opinion your mother might have a gastric ulcera, or gastritis, which usually agravate from using these medicines. She should consult a gastrohepatologist for further evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
