What Causes Stiffness And Pain Upon Bending The Knee?

My right knee gets very stiff when I m sitting and it will hurt when I bend. The ache is to the left of front knee and when pressed in a certain spot it hurts. It is not swollen and does not hurt when I walk. But when I stretch it out it hurts. What should I do. It s been about a month now and don t recall any injury. It seems to be the same degree of discomfort every day. Chiropractor can t tell what it is. Suggested X-ray. It aches when I go to bed at night but goes away eventually. Mostly it just stiffens up and hurts when I extend it. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that if you are elderly then there might be having some degenerative changes developing like osteophytes, dryness into joint space or some changes in your joint ligaments producing stiffness and problem for bending joint or initially starting walking.
Go for x-ray knee joint for this type of changes.
If you are young then old history of any injury to this joint does cause this type of changes earlier.
Ok and take care.
