What Causes Stabbing Pain In The Chest And Upper Back?

I have had a cough for a few weeks Ive associated with allergies, although Ive never had allergies. It leaves me with high pain in my chest and a staging pain in my back, right behind my right upper bone area. Got a lot worse while i was just out walking the dog. Was hard to get air and it increased the stabbing pain in my back as I walked. I cough up white mucus, but only occasionally.
