What Causes Stabbing Pain And Numbness In Outer Part Of Right Thigh?

51 year old male, on blood pressure and antianxiety meds. 300 lbs, not diabetic. Changing eating habits. Left knee badly injured in his 20 s. Experiencing sharp stabbing pain and numbness in Right outside thigh. Left leg buckles unexpectedly. Back, hips, neck was adjusted by a chiropractor, no relief. Thinking Left knee needs replaced, compensating by putting full weight on Right leg. X-rays negative... MRI scheduled for the end of the month. Anything else come to mind? :)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Over all history suggests injury to your knee along with tendenitis of muscle tendon attached to hip on outer side of thigh.

You already have appointment for knee MRI but I would suggest to get MRI of lumber spine too..on order to exclude nerve compression causing your thigh problem.

For time being, rest, avoiding painful movements, ice pack &Over the counter pain pill(Ibuprofen) can be taken for some relief till you reach the expert.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
