Yes I had a period April 9- the 16th very heAvy, waited for one to come in May on the 3rd I have very light spotting with brown discharge lasted a day and I ve still not had a period. I ve had fatigue, headaches, nausea, and also back pain! My temp for the last two 1/2 weeks has been from 87.0 to 99.4 I took 3 home pregnancy tests before I got one with a faint second line waited two days went for blood work and it was negative! Could I still be pregnant? Maybe a cryptic pregnancy where my hcg doesn t show!? My sister had the same n didn t know she was pregnant for seven months

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Definitely, cryptic pregnancy, though not common, still may be a possibility, incident being 1 in 500 of total child birth. The reason may be low hormonal levels of HCG and hence, cannot be usually detected in urine or blood, therefore giving the negative results for pregnancy. Common condition like PCOS, perimenopause, extreme stress are the conditions, where hormonal fluctuation can give negative pregnancy results and hence a cryptic pregnancy.

In these days, rate of cryptic pregnancy is becoming low due to presence of modern imaging techniques like ultrasound etc. However, in some cases, even ultrasound may give a false negative result due to abnormal position of implantation, abnormal shape of uterus as well as an overlook by the ultra-sound technician due to a pre-determined thinking in mind of negative blood and urine results for pregnancy. As heredity may also be one factor for cryptic pregnancy, therefore, in your case, a careful re-evaluation by ultrasonography may be advised.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
