What Causes Spontaneous Hematoma In The Body?

My husband had a spontaneous hematoma develop 3 weeks ago when he was playing tennis. He has Factor 5 & Lupus something , was taken off his Xarelto hoping that the hematoma would heal...he still has quite a bit of pain when he stands up and tries to walk. Can he use heat on it and should he wear a compression stocking? If so, how often for the heat and the stocking? Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Well, spontaneous hematomas are common side effects of anticoagulants including xarelto and especially if there was recent sport activity. No exact trauma is required. It would be good to stop xarelto for several days if his cardiologist agree with this, apply cold (not heat), heparin gel and elastic stockng. ALso, he should keep leg elevated and take nonsteroid painkilers.
It should lead to improvement within 4 weeks. He should go back to sport activity when pain disappear.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
