Hi My husband has been spitting up blood at times for about a week or so..it stops and then comes back again..just wondering why this can be happening. He did go for an Xray, waiting to hear from his Dr. Hope you can give me an idea of why this is happening. He is 50 yrs. old..and was a smoker. He quit about 6 yrs ago...Thank you
The blood in sputum can be due to bronchitis like respiratory infection mainly in smoker patient. However exact idea regarding cause can be clear from chest X-ray only. You can attach your chest X-ray report to comment further. Mitral stenosis, pneumonia etc are some other causes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
